4th Grade Optical Art Paintings

The fourth grade students learned about optical illusions. They viewed the artwork of Op Artists, Bridget Riley, Victor Vasarely, and M.C. Escher, and in response to these images, they created their own Op art!

The fifth grade students viewed the paintings of contemporary painter Susan Andreasen, who creates oil paintings of endangered animals in their natural habitats. They also viewed the art of National Geographic photographer Joel Satore, who completed a major photojournalism project on endangered species in North and South America. The fifth graders observed photographs of endangered animals, and they created colored pencil drawings of these animals within their natural habitats. Through creating these drawings, the students learned that art can be used to bring about positive changes within society.

Sixth Grade "Analogous Action!"

The sixth grade students learned about analogous colors, and they used this color scheme to paint sillhouettes of figures in action. The students used recycled cardboard and styrafoam in order to create these freestanding sculptures.
